Dear Fellow Team Members,
Please read this to the end. Our organizing committee had to make a painful decision. The response this year was later than last year and the cost of the hall went up by $1000 over what they originally quoted us. Based on the responses and individual communications with those who did, we decided to scale the event down and make it more like a reunion dinner. Unlike last year we won’t be having a dance show so it’s more just great friends all getting together to have a great time. So to reiterate- we are not cancelling the event, just scaling it down so we hope those of you who were planning to attend will still join us for a fun evening of reminiscing and sharing. If anyone wants to dance after dinner there is lots of live music in the area and less than 20 minutes away, there is a Swing Dance at one location or a Salsa event at another so we can continue the party.
Linda is in the process of refunding your entire deposit. The general manager of Mi Piace has given us a very special privilege of ordering off the entire menu rather than the typical buffet set up at a group event.
The location of Mi Piace is 25 E. Colorado, Pasadena in the very center of Old Town Pasadena. There is valet parking in front, or 90 minute free city parking across the street.
Now what we need most importantly from you is confirmation that you will be joining us.
Please, please, please, join us for a great night and help us by confirming your attendance
In the sports world, the name USC immediately creates recognition for the sheer numbers of Hall of Fame Athletes in sports such as football, baseball, track & field, swimming and many Olympic Sports. Names such as Marcus Allen, Tom Seaver, Randy Johnson, Mark Maguire, Paul Westphal, John Naber, Cheryl Miller, Lisa Leslie, Reggie Bush, Frank Gifford, Ronnie Lott, Lynn Swann, Allyson Felix, Janet Evans, Bob Seagren, Louis Zamperini, John Wayne, are but a small percentage of athletes that hit the peak in their sport. The USC Ballroom Dance team should be recognized in the same way. In the late 70’s and early 80s, the team and various members began an almost unbroken run of US Amateur National Champions a few undefeated Professional US Champions, as well as British and World Champions. The Dance Team won several US National Championships as well as making the podium in 3 out of 5 World Formation Championships in Europe, where Formation dancing is competed in large arenas.
In the mid 80’s the USC program was largely ignored by the administration and so several members reconstituted as the Southern California Dance Team and the torch was passed over the next few years.
In 2023 we had our first “official” reunion in 49 years but we finally got a chance to all get together. Carol Montez, our first coach, Linda Carrasco Duarte and Enio Cordoba hosted our first reunion on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at the beautiful Dove Canyon Country Club. Though the team started as the USC Ballroom Dance Team, it branched into several teams including The Southern California Dance Team. This reunion was for ALL the teams (and dance class members) from 1974-1995. Over 75 former members and spouses returned from all across the US to celebrate and reconnect.
This website is being created with lots of love. We hope that it can be a repository for pictures of our dance adventures, and a way to connect with many of our past teammates. We invite you to send us pictures and add some fun (and juicy) stories to the blog. Though you can see it on a phone or tablet, It is best viewed on a computer or big screen. If you click on most pictures, they will be viewable in full size. We have now added pages for each year under the Team Galleries tab in the Menu
Important: Even if you missed the reunion, please leave your info on our Contact page for future gatherings and for old friends to reconnect
This is NOT the website of the current USC Ballroom Dance program, you can find the current team’s site by clicking this button below. (You will be leaving this site)
I apologize, putting this thing together got me a bit behind so I haven’t been able to update the site, nor place pictures that were received just before the reunion. We will continue to collate pictures and video of the event and I have just added a special page to the site.
But I must acknowledge the people that worked so hard to pull this fabulous event off. In addition to the efforts from Carol Montez Bressan and Linda Carrasco-Duarte, Chuck Stanislawski 1974- 2050 😉 was a big help in the planning phase but the beautiful gift placemats were designed by Chuck’s wife Lisa, and donated by Chuck’s fantastic tax firm Stanislawski & Co! In addition, Paul Bressan, Phil Carrasco, Terryl Jones, and Robin Landry helped with setup, deejaying and breakdown. The event ended too soon for everyone’s taste but it allowed us to show that we can do this in the future. With our 50th Anniversary coming up, we promise you it will be bigger and better than you can imagine and we will announce the date soon!
