Ron and Carol had left the USC program. US Professional Ballroom Champion Stephen Cullip. Gathering some of the 1980 team members, Stephen organized a team to attend the US Championships in New York. In the first head to head meeting with BYU and other teams, USC came out victorius, winning the gold medal in the Latin Formation division.
